Rim guide

West Rim or South Rim?

It's the first question every Las Vegas visitor asks. They're both spectacular, but they offer very different days. Here's the honest breakdown so you can choose with confidence — then book the tour that fits.

Closest to Las Vegas

The West Rim.

About 120 miles from the Strip — roughly a 2 to 2.5-hour drive or a ~45-minute flight. It sits on Hualapai tribal land (not the National Park) and is the home of the canyon's biggest attractions.

  • The Skywalk glass bridge at Eagle Point
  • Eagle Point & Guano Point viewpoints
  • Helicopter canyon-floor landings
  • Colorado River pontoon floats
  • Best for a shorter day trip with the most "wow" add-ons
The deep, classic vista of the Grand Canyon South Rim.
The classic National Park

The South Rim.

About 270 miles away — a ~4.5-hour drive or a ~60-minute flight. This is Grand Canyon National Park: the deepest, most iconic views, and the postcard everyone pictures.

  • The deepest, widest, most famous vistas
  • Mather Point & the main visitor center
  • Classic rim viewpoints and trails
  • No Skywalk and no canyon-floor landings here
  • Best reached by airplane to keep it a day trip

Which is right for you?

Pick by what matters most.

01

Short on time

Choose the West Rim. It's closer, so you can fit a helicopter or airplane tour into a half or full day and still be back for dinner on the Strip.

02

Want the Skywalk or to land below the rim

Choose the West Rim — it's the only rim with the Skywalk, canyon-floor helicopter landings, and Colorado River floats.

03

After the classic, deepest view

Choose the South Rim. The National Park's vistas are unmatched; fly there to make it a comfortable day trip from Vegas.

04

Watching the budget

A West Rim motorcoach day trip is the most affordable way to stand at the edge — and you can still add the Skywalk.
